Ch-ch-ch-changes

Observant readers will not need me to point out that my name, as given at the bottom of this post, has changed. I got so fed up with people shortening Tony - itself a diminutive of the name my parents gave me - that I introduced myself as Anthony at the interview for my new job.

I've no objections to you continuing to address me as Tony, but have the temerity to shorten it and words will be had. I may even set the dog on you.

  • What do they shorten it to? Tony is already pretty short.

  • This post'll tell you all you need to know.

  • Ahhhhh, thanks for the link.

I can see how you wouldn't like "Tone"....T could be cool though;) But way too short!

I hate when people try to call me "Scar"...yuck.

  • I was going to ask about that, but now I don't have to. No one's ever really shortened "Andy" to anything except "A", which I do all the time on my correspondence anyway.

  • At least signing yourself "A" doesn't make a nonsense of your initials, Andy. There was a time I considered going along with "Ant", but as only my nearest and dearest get away with that one, I tend to consider it more an endearment.

"Scar" is pretty horrible, I agree ... And while we're on the subject of names, you're the first Scarlet I've met spelt with a single T. Is that usual?

  • i've been called spence, which sounds hoakily familiar... and even spec is a common nickname for spencer... i've also been called asshole and faggot a lot... and all sorts of other evil names... and all sorts other good ones, like darling, baby, sweetie, honey, and punkin... i even have one friend who calls me nefertiti. lots of people just call me "bitch"... which is also fine. This post made me realize that i only seem to give a shit what people i don't like call me... friends can call cheeseburger or fatso if they want.

  • can call ME those things that is.

  • I've only met 1 or 2 Scarlet(t)s ever in my life and I'm not sure how they spelled it. Most people at first spell mine with two T's so it's definitely more common. And now that I think about it, I'm not sure why my parents chose this way...I love it though:) It works well with my last name.

  • I've been meaning to ask you for a while now, Spencer - why aethlos? A search on Google has confirmed my suspicions of the word's Greek roots, apparently something to do with contests in athletics.

  • The H in my name, I've noticed, is silent in England but not in Scotland, which I found a little disconcerting at first, but over the years I've come to appreciate the comparative softness of the Scottish pronounciation.

Thon or Hony? That's just ridiculous ... Don't you dare!
