A line from this morning's sermon

This apparently came from a Christmas card greeting - seems a bit unlikely, but it had us all smiling.

Be the person your dog believes you are.

  • I've seen this several places in America, on bumper stickers (do you even have those in the UK?) and on fridge magnets, but usually the phrasing is, "Dear Lord, let me be the person my dog thinks I am." And you know? that's incredibly profound, I think.

  • I can't claim to have got the wording exactly right, but I have to admire the sentiment. It's quite something to aspire to.

And yes, we do have bumper stickers in the UK. Usually car-related jokes, more often than not tired and, if you'll pardon the pun, dog-eared - the joke as well as the sticker.
